US has sanctioned 18 people, mostly Russian officials suspected death of lawyer Sergei Magnitski in 2009, a decision that would further worsen relations between Moscow and Washington.
The expected publication of the famous list 'Magnitski "comes after months of tension between the two countries on the issue of human rights. The names of 18 individuals born in Russia and three other republics of the Community of Independent States, but functions of whom are not specified, are placed on a blacklist of the US Department of Treasury. Under the law, all the income of these people has been seized in the American territory. Those involved will also be denied visas to the United States of America.
According to the US Department of Treasury, 15 persons were born in Russia, including two in Chechnya. Three others were born in Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. These sanctions are taken under a US law passed in December and that includes individuals responsible for the deaths of Serguei Magnitskit and persons suspected of serious violations against human rights in Russia. Lawyer who fought against corruption in Russia, Sergei Magnitski died in prison in Moscow in 2009 by torture.
